SURRENDER INFORMATION

The Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. rescues Dachshunds from various sources including shelters and individuals. If you, or someone you know, is facing the need to surrender a Dachshund, we realize that it is a very difficult decision. It is important to all that we put the best interest of the dog first.  Please do not surrender your Dachshund to a shelter.

Do remember that ODR, Inc. is a breed-specific rescue. We will only accept Dachshunds and Dachshund mixes. (If you have another breed, there are other rescue groups that will be happy to find a home for your dog.)

Please read our SURRENDER (DONATION) AGREEMENT.

Please make a tax-deductible donation.

IF YOU NEED TO SURRENDER YOUR DOG, PLEASE EMAIL ME WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

  • Your name, address and all phone numbers where I can reach you.

  • Name of your dog, age, size and color, how long have you had him/her, why you are surrendering him/her.

  • Has your dog been seen recently by a veterinarian? If so, please try to provide us with a copy of all medical records when you arrive. If not, we ask that he/she have a bordetella shot (kennel cough) before coming to us to protect him/her as well as all the other dogs in the rescue.  If you are not able to get this shot, please let us know so that we may ensure he/she gets it before being exposed to the other dogs.  Any contribution toward this cost is helpful, but not mandatory.

  • Tell us all the good things about your dog, what he/she likes to eat, where he/she likes to sleep, what activities he/she enjoys doing (walking, riding in the car, playing ball).

  • Tell us all the bad things - (excessive barking, biting, peeing in the house, aggressive behavior). Please be honest. The more we know the better chance we have to work on the negative behavior and the greater chance to find a good home. We know most dogs are turned in due to some problem so please don't hesitate to tell us everything.

  • If possible, we would like your dog's collar, leash, bedding and toys. We also need food and treats that will last for three weeks. Since we run 100% off of donations, please try to provide what you are able to. Providing these supplies help your dog transition into the rescue and make it a little less stressful.

  • All Doxies live at the rescue for 3 weeks or longer before they are ready to be adopted out. This gives us enough time to assess them and work on any bad habits they may have. We want to give them the very best chance of finding a wonderful home that will keep them forever.

  • Spaying/Neutering - All Dachshunds adopted from ODR, Inc. will be spayed/neutered. If your pet is not currently altered, please consider having it done before placement into rescue. If the Dachshund is placed in to ODR, Inc unaltered, we will have the procedure done. The average cost to spay/neuter runs $100-$150.  We would ask that you make a contribution toward this cost if you are able, however, it is not a requirement.  Any donation or contribution, of any size, helps to care for and feed these sweet creatures.  We are 100% supported by donations, so please help if you are able.

Jenell will be in touch with you as soon as she reviews your information. We know it is a difficult decision to give up your dog but please be assured we will do everything we can to find him/her the very best home.
