OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS
OUR CRITERIA
The following is a list of criteria that we look for in potential adopters (we realize that not everyone will appreciate our requirements) but we've found these homes to be the most successful:
-
Securely fenced yard (Apartment living not accepted)
-
Adopter over 21 years of age
-
Shouldn't work long hours away from home -working full time away from home will not be allowed. Preference given to retired or work from home/stay at home or limited part time work. These are very social dogs and they do best when they can be with their people most of the time.
-
No children under the age of 10 in household (breed has fragile backs and tend to nip young kids)
-
Non-smoking home
-
We do not place same sex dogs in a household
-
We will not place our rescue dogs in a home with small animals like hamsters, chickens, rabbits, etc. as these dogs have a strong prey instinct
GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER
The first seven days of your adoption will be considered a trial period. If you and your new pet are not a match for each other for any reason, this is a good way to find out. You will be asked to check in regularly to let Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. know things are going well. You may also be asked to allow a visit from an Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. representative to make sure all is well.
IF THINGS DON'T WORK OUT
With every life that is rescued, Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. takes responsibility for its placement. Should your dog not be a good match for you, or should we find that the conditions of the contract are not met in the placement, the dog MUST be returned to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. so that we can find another home. Adopters may not search for placement on their own.
We do not offer "refunds" as any monies paid are a donation and not a "payment for goods and/or services". However, if you are a qualified candidate, we will offer an exchange for another dachshund, if appropriate.
ADOPTION PROCESS
Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. always has the best interest of the dog at heart. We feel it is our responsibility to place them in homes that will not only provide them with love, but healthy living conditions for their specific breed needs.
All adopters will be required to sign a contract. In the event the adoptable dog doesn't work out, our contracts specify they are to be returned to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. has the right to reclaim any pet which is kept under conditions violating the contract agreement.
Adoptions are initially arranged by email. Your information will be reviewed and you will receive a response as soon ASAP. If you do not see the dog you are looking for on our current list, please complete the questionnaire and we will put you on the list of approved adopters when the right dog comes in.
At the time of the adoption, you will be asked to fill out an agreement. This is an agreement between you and Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. in which you will agree to certain conditions for your new furry friend. Please know that we are not trying to judge anyone's lifestyle. We only want to ensure that these dogs -- many of whom have already had a difficult life -- find the very best homes where they can live their years in healthy, safe and loving environments.
