OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS

OUR CRITERIA

The following criteria have proven to result in the most successful placements:

  • Securely fenced yard required. No Apartment living.

  • Home most of the time. No full-time work away from home. Preference given to retired, work from home, stay at home, or limited part-time households. Dachshunds are very social dogs and thrive from companionship.

  • No children under the age of 10 due to the breeds fragile backs and tendency to nip at young children.

  • Non-smoking home.

  • No same sex dogs in household.

  • No small animals in household (hamsters, rabbits, chickens, etc.) due to breeds strong prey drive.

GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER

  • The first seven days after adoption are considered a trial period to ensure a good match for you and your pet.

  • During this time adopters are expected to provide regular updates to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. on how the transition is going.

  • Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. may request a visit from a rescue volunteer to ensure the transition is the dachshund is adjusting well and everything is going smoothly.

ADOPTION PROCESS

Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. always acts in the best interest of the dogs in our care. Our goal is to place each dog in a loving home that can also provide for the breed's unique health, safety, and lifestyle needs.

All adopters are required to sign an adoption contract. If, for any reason, the adoption does not work out, the dog must be returned to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. We reserve the right to reclaim any dog being kept in violation of the adoption agreement.

The adoption process begins with the submission of an application. Applications are reviewed as quickly as possible, and applicants will be contacted regarding the next steps. If you do not see a dog currently available that meets your needs, we encourage you to complete an application so we can consider you when an appropriate dog becomes available.

Our adoption agreement is designed to ensure that every dog is placed in a safe, healthy, and loving environment. We are not judging anyone's lifestyle; rather, we are committed to finding the best possible homes for dogs who deserve a lifetime of care, security, and companionship.

IF THINGS DON'T WORK OUT

Every dog rescued by Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. remains our responsibility throughout its lifetime. If an adoption is not a good fit, or if the terms of the adoption contract are not being met, the dog must be returned to Oregon Dachshund Rescue, Inc. Adopters may not rehome or place the dog on their own.

Adoption fees are considered donations and are non-refundable. However, in certain circumstances and for qualified adopters, we may consider placing another dachshund if an adoption is not successful.
